Double Bill at Arnolfini: As If No Misfortune Had Occurred in the Night + Familiar Phantoms
Please join us this Thursday, 5 December, at 19:30 at the Arnolfini for a compelling evening featuring two profound films by Palestinian director Larissa Sansour, in collaboration with Søren Lind.
As If No Misfortune Had Occurred in the Night: An Arabic-language opera delving into themes of loss, mourning, and inherited trauma, blending Gustav Mahler’s Kindertotenlieder with the traditional Palestinian song Mashaal. Set in a derelict chapel, this 21-minute film offers a haunting meditation on intergenerational sorrow.

Familiar Phantoms: A personal and experimental documentary shot in a derelict mansion, inspired by Sansour’s own family history. This 42-minute film explores intergenerational trauma and the lingering presence of the past.
After the screenings, there will be a Q&A session with producer Ali Roche, providing deeper insights into the creation and themes of these works.
Venue: Arnolfini, BS1 4Q
